Reflections on the moment we live in
As a world, we seem to be at the crossroads at the moment. As a species, we seem to be at war with ourselves.
Is the furious pace of mankind in the modern era finally catching up with it? Leading world economies are struggling and there is no clear roadmap as research agencies and other so called experts keep revising forecast figures.
Add to it the never ending trouble with terrorism, religious and civilizational conflicts, the plot becomes more foreboding. To some extent, it looks like a futile goal to pursue lasting peace in the world as a goal. We may always have to live with the relatively smaller goals of bringing down the extent of conflicts, brokering peace accords in regions of discord that last for a period of time and so on and so forth. And that has to be a continuous, tireless endeavour.
Sustainable development and Green economics are more than mere buzzwords now. They are very necessary components in a framework that can guide our future sustenance. Climate change across different parts of the world are testimony to the immense and perhaps irreparable damage we have already done to our ecosystem.
Strange but true that as a civilzation, perhaps we have achieved so much in terms of technology innovations, healthcare and in other fields, largely due to the brilliance of the few. The larger majority seems to have benefited but have they played their part in being responsible co-agents in this cosmic puzzle of which mankind is but a small piece? I have the realisation that I am part of that larger majority as well. It behooves us that we reflect deeply everytime on what we do and why we do what we do and if our guiding motives are reasonable to the world we live in.
